सिंधु घाटी सभ्यता की खोज मुख्य रूप से भारतीय पुरातत्वविद् दयाराम साहनी ने 1921 में हड़प्पा स्थल पर की थी।
खोज का इतिहास
दयाराम साहनी ने भारतीय पुरातत्व सर्वेक्षण (ASI) के महानिदेशक जॉन मार्शल के निर्देशन में हड़प्पा (पाकिस्तान के पंजाब में) की खुदाई शुरू की, जहाँ से इस सभ्यता का पता चला। 1922 में राखल दास बनर्जी ने मोहनजोदड़ो स्थल की खोज की। जॉन मार्शल ने 1924 में विश्व को इस नई सभ्यता की घोषणा की।
महत्व
इन खोजों ने साबित किया कि भारत में वैदिक काल से भी पुरानी उन्नत नगरीय सभ्यता थी। दयाराम साहनी को ही इस सभ्यता के प्रमुख खोजकर्ता माना जाता है।
